Dalit II

Ing Aldo í la ning Búlan
The Sun and the Moon

2:1
Bábo banua meránup ya,
Nuang Salaksak a núnû ta,
Maglambáyang lilimpad ya,
Magdúlap mûng asanan na.

High in the heavens he was starving,
Our venerable ancestor Salaksak,
Hovering above the oceans,
Looking for fish for him to eat.

2:2
Dapot kng láut alâ na,
Asan danum mímin na la,
Mipamísang mepangan la,
Kng Indûng Dápung núnû ta.

In the oceans he could not find one,
The fish have all gotten scarce,
It seems they have all been eaten,
By our beloved Mother Crocodile.

2:3
Nuang Salaksak kng dúlap na
Tagan asan menákit ya,
Ditak tínga kng ípan na,
Ning Indûng Dápûng núnû ta.

Lord Salaksak in his search,
Has found some left over fish,
A detritus lodge between the teeth,
Of our beloved Crocodile Mother.

2:4
Nuang Salaksak kng dánup na,
Asbuk ning dápu linub ya,
Tinga níti tiktuk na na,
Alâng takut mapangan ya.

Lord Salaksak in his hunger,
Plunged into the crocodile’s jaws,
And pecked on the morsel of fish wedged between her teeth,
Blind to the dangers that surrounded him.

2:5
Dapot tambing mikabat ya,
Asbuk ning dápung núnû ta,
Nuang Salaksak mesagpang ya,
Atian dápu tiglusan na.

At once they clamped down,
The jaws of our Mother Crocodile,
Lord Salaksak was caught within,
And into her belly he plunged in.

2:6
Iting uagas nang katáuan,
Ning Budnîng Batálâ táng nuan,
Meláso ya kilub atian,
Ning dápung Indû táng Tíbûan.

The sacred flesh,
Of our noble Lord Salaksak,
Was digested within the bowels,
Of our ancestral Crocodile Earth Mother.

2:7
Kng meláso nang katáuan,
Kaladuang nuan sinlag nó man,
Kambal sálâ linual agnan,
Bápûng Aldo, Bápûng Búlan!

From his digested flesh,
Arises his radiant souls,
The twin lights burst forth,
Our Lord Sun, Our Lord Moon!

2:8
Atian dápu itdas da ya,
Ba nang sublî bábo banua,
Nuang Dápu kanan alî na,
Salaksak mal a manínga.

The crocodile’s stomach burst,
An the twin lights returned to heaven,
Our beloved crocodile will eat no more,
Lord Salaksak who picks her teeth.
